Two days ago, during my seventh Zone 2 run on Surisan, I spotted a couple chestnuts that had fallen out of its spiny husk. I’d been seeing fallen husks since last week, but this time there were chestnuts lying on the trail, as if they were waiting for me to pick them up.

I picked up the ones right in front of me, then started looking for more as I went. I even stepped off the trail and found another two or three. Then a couple came along. The woman saw me picking up chestnuts and started looking for them too. For a moment, I felt as though she’d wandered into my little chestnut hunt, and I was annoyed. Haha.
I walked on, but I noticed the feeling. It was almost as if I could watch myself from a distance: there I was, getting possessive over a few chestnuts on a mountain trail! I didn’t judge myself for it or try to push the feeling away. I could see that slightly petty side of myself and meet it with kindness, too. After a little while, the unpleasant feeling passed.

The next day, I found a few more chestnuts along the trail.

And they were good!
