On September 21, I did my sixth Zone 2 run on Surisan. While running, I was listening to a YouTube interview with Dr. Roger Seheult on The Diary of a CEO.
What caught my attention was his explanation of the relationship between sun light and mitochondria. He talks about how sunlight may do much more for our bodies than simply help us produce vitamin D. In particular, red and near-infrared wavelengths in sunlight may influence our mitochondria—the tiny structures in our cells that produce energy—and may help protect our cells from oxidative stress.
This immediately reminded me of what Prof. Joo-Hwan Kim has been teaching us about mitochondria and the importance of taking care of our bodies at the cellular level.
I’ve been walking barefoot on Surisan since May, and just recently I started doing Zone 2 runs there as well. I usually walk and run in the morning, so I’ve naturally been getting morning sunlight along the way. Listening to Dr. Seheult while running made me realize that moving sunlight itself may be another important part of my routine.
Movement, morning sunlight, fresh air, and nature—all together on Surisan. It made me appreciate my morning runs and barefoot walks even more.
