On September 20, I did my fifth Zone 2 run on Surisan. I’ve been walking barefoot there for months, but I only recently started Zone 2 running. I love working up a sweat—the breeze feels even better when it hits my skin, even though I feel like I’m running in place on the uphill stretches!

On that run, I saw an animal that looked like a deer—maybe a gorani (Korean water deer), though I’m not sure. It was my first time seeing a deer-like animal in the wild, and the moment felt surreal. It darted across the trail just five to ten meters in front of me, then disappeared down a steep slope. I couldn’t get a picture of it, so I took a photo of the spot where I’d seen it. Here’s the spot where I saw it!

I’ve been coming to Surisan since May, but it’s only this September that I’ve started noticing the animals around me. I’ve seen squirrels a few times, heard woodpeckers from time to time, and now I’ve spotted this deer-like animal. I’m only just beginning to meet my neighbors on Surisan. I wonder who I’ll meet next!
